laptop - My keyboard is typing by itself, could there be a ghost in it?

The keyboard on my laptop seems to be typing by itself:It sometimes types characters like 134, whether by itself or when I hit certain keys.Repeating characters may appear unexpectedly. The system volume may change by itself, or windows like the Print dialog or Web browser may appear. This can happen without any input or as I type, and may occur more often when certain keys are pressed. Sometimes, the keyboard fails to respond altogether. This is happening regardless of the software involved. Is there a ghost in my keyboard—is my keyboard broken?A...Read more

I am running ElementaryOS (though I've been experiencing this same issue with other distros) on a Xiaomi Notebook 13 laptop, which I have connected to an external monitor. The interface size of the external monitor is perfect, everything works fine, but the problem comes with the latop: everythings is extremely small and I can't find anywhere to change it. Did any laptop computers have a built-in 5 1/4 inch floppy drive?

In the early era of "portable" or luggable computers, such as the mains powered Osborne 1 and the Compaq Portable, 5 1/4 inch floppy drives were the standard storage medium. When battery-powered laptops came of age in the late 1980s, 3 1/2 inch floppy drives were generally used (see for example the IBM PC Convertible, which used two of them).A few battery powered laptops, such as the Toshiba T1100, supported the use of an external 5 1/4 inch floppy drive. This allowed them to access data on these larger floppies, and transfer data to & fro...Read more

Laptop suddenly won't boot, lights and fan turn on but no other response

Day zero I take my laptop out of my room to stream a movie and find out it might as well not have a battery when it hibernates within a minute or two. When I plug it in and power it on, it comes up fine but a bit later it freezes. After a restart it's fine. After the movie, I have it hibernate to move it back. When I power it on, it blue screens, but after restarting it and dumping the hibernated state it comes up fine.Day one, I use it as normal and have it sleep when I go out. When I get back, it won't wake up. The lights are on (front and bu...Read more

Laptop Model: Gigabyte Aero 14 (2018 spring i7-8750H edition)At very beginning my OS Windows 10 started showing SMART alert and then one morning PC didn't boot any more. hardware compatibility - How linux-compatible is the Sager NP7950 laptop? (lspci -v?)

I am looking for a laptop that I can use for blender on linux and for gaming in windows. The Sager NP7950 (aka Clevo N950K6?) caught my eye, but I have not been able to find out any information about how well-supported its hardware is by linux drivers. I know that the Alienware 15 I tried did not even have HDMI audio without PCI tricks ( https://unix.stackexchange.com/a/394725/154635 )Would someone with this laptop answer with the output of lspci -v and the kernel version? (even if it is just from a live DVD). And if you actually installed L...Read more

graphics cards - Do Laptops exist that allow to swap the GPU?

I'm about to buy a new laptop computer. I might want a better NVidia GPU on my own computer in the future, and it would be great to keep that option open without buying an expensive machine right away.I didn't find such information on any laptop available online, so I fear this generally does not exist, at least not for lower-cost models. This PCWorld article from 2015 suggests that it's possible for some laptops made by the manufacturer Clevo. The question: Are there laptop computers in the range of 1000-1300€ (-1500 USD) that allow to upgrade ...Read more

I've been hopping from one linux distribution to another to another to another to another... and I've been wondering, is changing an operating system just like installing a program to the computer, meaning that I can do it again and again and again and my computer won't notice it, or should I settle down because it harms the computer? Lenovo laptop battery only charges to 68.1% capacity?

I have a Lenovo Z50-75 which supports battery charge limiting. Before I installed Linux, I had my battery set in conservation mode. I don't know if that had any effect on the matter but my battery does not get a full capacity charge, which is great for battery life conservation, but I wonder if installing Linux by formatting after setting up battery conservation in Windows had any effect on this....Read more

usb - Laptop's internal keyboard as an external one?

Firstly, let me say that I've never seen how a laptop's internal keyboard interface with the motherboard. Hence the question. The thing is I use an external keyboard and monitor, but I like how internal keyboards are, and I simply can't find a decent external keyboard that makes me happy. So it just occurred to me if it could be possible to interface an internal keyboard through USB or PS/2, so I could use it as an external one... and so I could be happy once and for all.Followup:If anyone wants to know, I ended up buying this keaboard which has ...Read more
